We ended up taking them to a wildlife rescue centre near Salisbury called Wild Things Res Q
They gave me a bollocking for cutting down a tree in "roosting season" but they also showed us around the place and told us about all the animals in there. They had Deer, Badgers, Polecats, Hedgehogs, Blackbirds, House Martins etc etc. I dared not take any photos for fear of another verbal retribution but it was interesting nonetheless!
